On 12th June, 2011, students will be competing in the following–Vocal Solo, Group Song, Declamation, and Group Dance.  Each year, the students are improving as they gain more experience so expect some surprises and an exciting time at UMAH-IPS.

The UMAH International Primary School recently launched its new Alma Mater Song entitled “Young Stalwarts of UMAH”.  The song marks a new beginning for the school and the organization as a whole.

Since Mr. Mohamed Alli Din’s passing in December of 2009, the organization’s spirit has been down as the community mourned for their loss.

Now, with the coming in of the new administration, a renewed spirit and high Islamic pride has driven the organization to continue the late Mr. Din’s mission and vision.

The new school song embodies this mission and vision and instills in the hearts and minds of our future generation that they should remain strong in adversity and be united in facing life’s challenges.

The principal, Ms. Amarie Teodosio, was excited to bring a school activity outside the campus. “We decided to hold the graduation ceremony at Yuen Long Town Hall because we want to be closer to our community,” the principal said adding that the ceremony was open to anyone interested in watching the event.

Primary 6 adviser, Mr. Samuel Moyani Jr., was proud to present the 13 graduates of Primary 6 for they have been an excellent and a well-disciplined class. “I am truly proud of our graduates and I am excited to hear them sing their graduation song,” Mr. Moyani said during the event, referring to the theme “Reach Out for the Skies”. “Reach Out for the Skies”, a reminder and challenge to the graduates to always pursue their individual goals in life, was chosen by the teachers of UMAH-IPS for its simple and straightforward message.

Mr. Mohamed Ayub Din, son of the late chairman Mohamed Alli Din, gave the welcome address and an inspiring message to the graduates while Dr. Jason Yuen who designed the Sheung Shui Mosque, gave a thoughtful tribute to the late Mr. Din. For the graduates’ side, Haroon Shahid delivered the graduation speech.

Piraya Khotsombat received the highest honour for being the top of her class. Aside from the 13 graduates, outstanding students from Primary 1 to Primary 6 were recognized for getting high grades during the 2009-2010 school year.

Important guests like Dr. Jason Yuen, Dr. Angel Ramos, Vice Consul (Malaysian Consulate in Hong Kong) Mrs. Umi Kelsom Talib, Mr. Ng Tze Ka, Mr. John Fisher, Mr. Roderick Miller, Police Sgt. Chow Kin Man and Inspector Yiu Chun Ho, Erictony graced the event. Mrs. Rita Lama Din, Mr. S.J. Raghbi and Mr. Javed Shahab were also present.

The graduation ceremony was followed by a Literary Musical Show which showcased favourite and winning performances from past UMAH events like the Arts and Culture Programme and the Literary Musical Competition.

Hosted by UMAH-IPS alumni Ms. Afshan Kanwal and Ms. Shrijana Pun, the ceremony was held at Yuen Long Town Hall from 2:30 to 5:00 PM. An estimated 200 people attended the successful event.

The first quarter meeting was the first general assembly since the beloved UMAH Chairman Mohamed Alli Din passed away on December 4, 2009.

The annual meeting formed the new council members of the organization through an election.

Muslim members showed their support to the organizing committee which will spearhead the organization and continue the smooth operation of existing services like the Haji Omar Ramju Sadick Care and Attention Home and the UMAH International Primary School.

Mr. Mohamed Ayub Din, manager of Haji Omar Ramju Sadick Care and Attention Home, UMAH, assured the ongoing, uninterrupted service of the institutions to ethnic minorities. “I will do my best to serve my father and continue his legacy,” Mr. Ayub Din said adding that he is grateful to his brothers and sisters in Islam for their support during a difficult time.

Last 18th April, 2010 UMAH-IPS students, together with their parents, headed to Tai Tong Country Park for a barbecue picnic.

The mood in the bus was somber as parents exchanged fond stories of Mr. Din. When the group arrived at the park, everyone started to unwind and relax in the cool fresh air. By lunchtime, each family has a barbecue pit smoking out some choice cuts of Halal chicken and fish balls. The atmosphere was fun and the students bonded with their parents.

Relay games and a raffle draw followed and the lucky ones went home with some prizes for the family.

As the day ended, past parents’ day activities were remembered and all seem to agree that despite Mr. Din’s passing, his dream of a united ethnic minority family has remained.
